Livin’ in London
Wondering how’s daily living expenses in London is like?
Thought it would be good to break down my shopping list on my 2nd visit to Tesco supermarket so that people can get an idea on what it’s like to live here. Food’s one of the most important thing so that’s what i’m going to cover today.

So here’s the damage broken down along with some of my personal comments on the items:
| Item | Price |
| Masala Chicken and Rice - This was a reduced priced item as it was gonna expire. I bought it for a quick meal in the oven. |
£1.64 |
| Baguettes - This is to go with the Pizzas |
£0.77 |
| Mushroom and Vegetables - Easy to cook. Just dump it in the pan and stir fry with teriyaki sauce / oyster sauce. Can’t really go wrong i guess. Plus I already bought this last week and it was good! |
£1.00 |
| Family Pack Vegetables - Same as above except got different stuff inside |
£1.50 |
| Pork Loin Steaks - Now that i think about this one. No wonder my bill hit so high! Won’t be buying this anymore, too expensive for me. |
£5.00 |
| Meat Feast Pizza - A no brainer. Just dump in the oven and 25mins later i’ve got a full meal for sure. |
£1.64 |
| Cheese Tomato Pizza - Tried this already. Quite plain, no wonder the price. |
£0.99 |
| Nescafe Coffee - Been drinking tea mostly, so thought it’s time for some kopi! |
£1.37 |
| Spinach - Another no brainer. |
£0.50 |
| Mushrooms (Canned) - I like mushrooms. |
£0.73 |
| Chicken in Sauce (Canned) - Bought more canned food this time as it’s very easy to cook. |
£0.94 |
| Chicken Curry (400gm) (Canned) | £1.49 |
| Chopped Pork aka luncheon meat (Canned) | £1.29 |
| Apples - The apples were a little on the small size, but at least they are crunchy. |
£1.09 |
| Baked Beans (4 Cans) - Easy to cook and guaranteed healthy! |
£1.19 |
| Rice - I pretty much need rice in my daily diet. So this was a must. Though we haven’t got a rice cooker here, i’ve been using a pot to cook it. Burnt the rice once..but other than that, it has been pretty successful. |
£5.39 |
|
Total : |
£27.47 |
Here’s the official receipt in case you think i made up those prices haha.
Basically i bought food which i think are easy to cook, so i had to go with more canned food this time.
Hope this batch of food lasts me a while! Anyone in the UK can tell me if there’s even cheaper prices than this? I would certainly love to shop there!
I also came across this website, Mysupermarket, which actually compares prices between Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Ocado. Honestly, i’ve never heard of Asda and Ocado, so i have no idea. But i guess this website could prove useful before i visit the supermarket the next time. Maybe they can include costcutter, co-op and Waitrose prices too in the future! And if you visit all these website, you will notice how advanced they are in terms of Online e-commerce shopping for supermarkets!
Some interesting statistics i found on e-commerce in the UK:
- Between 2005 and 2006, Internet purchases rose by just over 34 per cent from £76.3bn to £102.5bn, while the proportion of businesses purchasing on-line rose by just under 1 per cent to 56.3 per cent.
- The Wholesale, Retail, Catering and Travel sector reported £60.7bn of sales over the Internet, a 24 per cent rise, and remains the largest on-line seller, retaining its share of £47 in every £100 of on-line sales.
